The Ambassador attended the Farewell Reception of the International Sustainability Unit on the occasion of the dissolution of the charity. The International Sustainability Unit is part of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales’ charities and it has recently decided to cease operations after ten years of existence.

The International Sustainability Unit’s aim was to address key environmental challenges facing the world specifically those to do with food security, ecosystems resilience and the depletion of natural capital. The Charity brought together partners from across government, private and non-profit sectors to implement practical programmes in marine and sustainable agriculture. The International Sustainability Unit was one of the first charities to focus specifically on ending deforestation and forest degradation covering the global cocoa supply chain.

During the evening, H.R.H. the Prince of Wales gave a speech where he outlined the activities of the charity since its beginnings. He mentioned the measures taken to protect the Rainforest and the success of the ‘Rainforest’ project that was established in 2007 in order to find solutions to tropical deforestation. This project, to which the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation participated, resulted in international funding worth five billion dollars. H.R.H. the Prince of Wales also mentioned the partnership between the International Sustainability Unit and the Monaco Blue Initiative and their efforts for the reduction of the Oceans’ plastic pollution. H.R.H. the Prince of Wales named H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and His Foundation for His impressive work and His engagement for environmental issues over the years.

The International Sustainability Unit will carry on its mission by collaborating with the World Resources Institute of which H.R.H. the Prince of Wales recently became a Patron. The World Resources Institute is a global research non-profit organisation which specialises in climate change issues, sustainable markets, ecosystem protection, and environmental governance services. H.E. Mrs Evelyne Genta was able to exchange with Dr Andrew Steer of the World Resources Institute who wishes to continue the partnership with the Principality and The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
