The Ambassador and Ms Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, attended the reception and ceremony organised on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Convention.

The Convention on the International Maritime Organization was adopted on 6 March 1948 at the United Nations Maritime Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland. The International Maritime Organization has nowadays 173 Member States and three Associate Member States. As a specialized agency of the United Nations, the International Maritime Organization is a global standard-setting authority responsible for measures to improve the safety and environmental performance of international shipping. The Organization ensures that those rules are applied efficiently and evenly. The measures taken by the IMO focus on all aspects of international shipping – such as conception, construction, equipment, workforce and operation of ships – in order to guarantee that this key sector stays safe as well as to prevent marine pollution from ships.

H.M. Queen Elizabeth II attended the ceremony. She met the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, Mr Kitack Lim with whom she unveiled the commemorative plaque made for her visit. All the Diplomatic Corps of Great Britain attended the ceremony. H.E. Ms Evelyne Genta and Ms Isabelle Rosabrunetto, the Permanent Representative of Monaco to the International Maritime Organization, were able to talk with many Ambassadors.
