Ocean Garden Party 2018

The Embassy of the Principality of Monaco attended the Oceans Garden Party hosted by the Galapagos Conservation Trust on 19th July which celebrates the unique marine life of Galapagos and supports the shark conservation programme. The Galapagos Conservation Trust is the only UK charity focused solely on the conservation of one of the most unique and ecologically important areas in the world, the Galapagos Islands.

The Galapagos Marine Reserve (GMR) is one of the most biologically diverse marine protected areas in the world, and one of the few places left on Earth with a high abundance of endangered shark species. Once sharks and other species leave the sanctuary of the Galapagos Marine Reserve, they come under threat as they journey through the high seas until they reach the protected waters of the Cocos Island National Park in Costa Rica. The Galapagos Conservation Trust is supporting research to protect the migration routes of these species as well as shark pupping grounds within the Galapagos Marine Reserve.

The evening started with a reception followed by speeches by H.E. the Ambassador of Ecuador, Mr Carlos Abad and H.E. the Ambassador of Costa Rica, Mr Enrique Castillo. Mark Brownlow, the BBC Blue Planet II Series producer gave a talk as well as Jonathan Green, the founder of the Galapagos Whale Shark Project. There was also a live auction in favour of the charity.
