H.R.H. Princess Caroline of Hanover attended Bonhams auction house for the opening of the exhibition of African contemporary art in favour of the charity AMADE, the worldwide association of friends of childhood. H.R.H. Princess Caroline of Hanover, the President of AMADE, was accompanied by H.E. Mrs Evelyne Genta and was able to explore the impressive art collection called ‘Welcome to Congo’, a celebration of contemporary art from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which includes pieces from artists such as Aime Mpane, Patrick Bongo, Bers Grandsinge or Freddy Tsimba. All proceeds from the auction will be split between the artists, AMADE and the Malaika Foundation. The funds raised in favour of AMADE will be dedicated to the program ‘Dignity for Women’ – initiated by H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover following Her exchanges with young women and girls from the Mungote IDP (Internal Displaced People) camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo in September 2016.

Founded in 1963 by Princess Grace, the charity AMADE is built on a vision of a world where children, regardless of their social, religious or cultural origins can live safely and with dignity and respect for their fundamental rights. The commitment of AMADE to children is based on the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (ICRC), adopted by the United Nations in 1989, as well as the Millennium Declaration to combat poverty, which was adopted by the international community in 2000. AMADE contributes to the implementation of these commitments by setting out to protect the most vulnerable children from violence, exploitation and abuse as well as promoting the development of children by contributing to facilitate access to education and health.

The Embassy of Monaco in London represented the Principality at the auction sale in favour of the charity which was held on Thursday 4th October at international auction house Bonhams in London. The auctioning was a great success thanks to the generous donors which will see part of the proceeds of the sale going to the Charity AMADE.
