On 29th March 2022, H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh’s memorial service upon the invitation of Buckingham Palace and H.M. the Queen Elizabeth II. The British Royal Family, members of the UK government as well as many members from European Royal Families took part of this very moving ceremony. H.S.H Prince Albert II sat amongst the Royal Families’ congregation between H.M. the Queen of Denmark and H.M. the King of the Netherlands. Once the memorial was over at Westminster Abbey, H.S.H Prince Albert II was invited to a luncheon hosted by H.R.H the Prince of Wales.

H.R.H Prince Philip, who passed away last year at the age of 99, was known for his passion for charity work, especially his foundation ‘the Duke of Edinburgh Award’ created in 1956. He was also involved in more than 700 charities.

As dedicated to environmental protection as Prince Albert II, the two men met in 2013 at the University of Cambridge for the hundredth anniversary of Robert Scott’s arrival to the South Pole.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s close connection with Monaco goes back further, to the year 1944 when his father, André de Grèce, died in the Principality. Seven years later, Prince Philip met Prince Rainier III who honored him with the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Charles.

By taking part in Prince Philip’s memorial service, H.S.H Prince Albert II keeps on honoring the great relationship between the Monegasque and British Royal Families.
