The Water and Climate Summit was a full day event that took place on the 10th of March 2020 and was hosted by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, President of WaterAid. The summit brought together key figures from global politics, business and philanthropy in order to discuss the impact of the climate crisis on access to clean water. One of the key focuses of the summit was to establish clean water and sanitation as one of the top priorities for the upcoming COP 26 discussions due to take place in Glasgow in November 2020.

The session opened with a high-level roundtable discussion led by HRH The Prince of Wales. H.S.H. Prince Albert II and H.E. Mr Bernard Fautrier (Vice-President and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation) took part in the conversation. The discussions focused on how to overcome potential barriers including policy, regulation, investment and infrastructure with the aim of ultimately finding sustainable solutions to the vital and urgent issues raised during the summit.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II also took part in the opening plenary alongside a panel of local activists, engineers and officials on the frontline of the water and climate crisis, dubbed the “Water Heroes”, who shared their personal testimonies. This was then followed by a keynote speech by H.R.H. the Prince of Wales addressing the need for urgent action to increase the level of investment and innovation from public and private sectors required to deliver the sustainable water services that would help to alleviate poverty and have a positive impact on industry and economic development. H.E. Mrs Evelyne Genta was also in attendance and was able to have interesting discussions with many high-level guests during the networking session of the conference.
